Honda SS50 - kickstart shaft replacement, front forks disassembly

Bericht door slinky.malinki »

Hello all small Honda's friends,
I have two issues to solve on my SS50.
1) Kick-start shaft replacement
Did someone also solve this issue in the past? I have searched for this on youtube, but there are only videos with complete engine restoration. So I realised, I have to completely strip the engine to change kick-start shaft, right? Am I right?
2) Front forks disassembly
How can I strip front fork tube from the lower case? I have the rubber boots and sripngs off, but what is the next step?

Hi slinky,

For replacing the kick start shaft, you need to split both middle crank case halfs. So top end needs to come off and clutch needs to be removed.

For the front forks, there is a circlip just below the springs and a cup to hold the spring. You need to remove the entire leg from the yoke to remove the springs, then remove the circlips and pull real hard to get the oil ring out.

Its better to fix the inner tube in a vice or something and push the outer leg off.

umm, yeah its too bad, but if you wanna change the kickstart shaft you'll have to take the entire engine apart, there's no way around it.

I thought so about that kick-start shaft, but want to be sure. So complete engine restoration will be the issue :)

As I said, I removed springs with cups as well as circlips, but then I was trying to remove seals. So you said there is need of force only to pull the inner tube from outer legs? Then I will try.
Thank you very much for reply.

You'll need a lot of force, the seals are in very tight. I used to do it with two old axles, screwed one in the inner tube on the top, the other one through the outer leg at the bottom. Put either one in the vice grip, and "hammer" it out by pulling the other back and forth.

Make sure you have a run way in the pull direction 😁
